Mrs. Philage discusses the Pews of western Pennsylvania and their relations with the Pews of Philadelphia. She recalls growing up in the environs of Grove City, Pennsylvania, the John G. Pew farm, and the schoolhouse where J.N. Pew, Sr. taught. She also talks about her work at Grove City College.

Deena Philage was born in 1955 in Mercer, Pennsylvania. Her mother was Letha Swingle Snyder and her father was Richardson Leroy Snyder. Her father was a metallurgist. Mrs. Philage is a descendant through her mother of David Pew, an uncle of J.N. Pew, Sr. She has lived in Mercer her entire life. She attended schools in Mercer and took her bachelors and masters degrees at Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
